And you probably bought Adobe Illustrator or pirated it(nothing wrong with that). Nobody will disagree that Adobe's products are expensive, but nonetheless you made this artwork using products (adobe illustrator and the wacom tablet) that are sold by privately owned companies, that make a product and sell it for a profit. Which empowers you as an individual to be creative and make art.
There are free and open source products out there for you to use but you didn't, because the capitalist companies won your business, because they pursued a profit which incentives them to create a much better product than an open source product like GIMP provides. Which shows that profit equals better quality.
You had a choice between a more free and open source, public software and a privately owned capitalist software, and you made the choice and bought or pirated the private software. So before you criticize capitalism stop being such a capitalist.
And try existing outside capitalism as much as possible and you'll soon find yourself an enemy of the state and under attack - whether you're an individual or a whole nation.
I think it's a great poster and makes a very good point. Perhaps you need to be familiar with certain ideas to understand the point and that takes effort, time and imagination. Obviously you don't see it the same way as some others do. That's fine but it's wrong to criticize others just because you can't see things from their perspective.
But also I want you to know, I understand that youre a smart person (at least you're critical). And as a woman living in Germany, of course I'm a consumer. Not as much as certain people surrounding me though, I've found my way of living.
The really important issue here is simple; its awareness.
I think about the things I buy. I ask myself: why is it so cheap? Where does it come from? And most importantly: Do I really need it?
That stance influenced my shopping behaviour, but its not like everybody else has made that step.
capitalism has many different faces; amongst glamour and wealth its also addiction and heteronomy.
With this piece of artwork, i wanted to express EXACTLY how I expierienced capitalism during the last 5 years (since I moved to the city)
For me, consumerism can be blinding, thats what the piece is supposed to outline. But to open your eyes and think about your actions is a big step that many people still have to make, and it doesnt mean that your life will change, just your view on the society around you.
As for me, like i just said, i try to be critical about my own actions and share my view with as many people as possible.
And about the creative suite: I actually bought it with student discount on the internet.
And the way I see it, capitalism is based on quantity, a graphic tablet however is marked by quality (I would say mine is), and I wouldnt link the use of artistically needed goods to capitalism.
